And if thy hand cause thee to stumble, cut it off: it is good for thee to enter into life maimed, rather than having thy two hands to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire.                where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.                And if thy foot cause thee to stumble, cut it off: it is good for thee to enter into life halt, rather than having thy two feet to be cast into hell, where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.                And if thine eye cause thee to stumble, cast it out: it is good for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell;                where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

A Light in Defense of the Unborn

Love One Another!

In April of 2007 Mexico City’s Legislative Assembly, thumbing its nose at the legislatures of the rest of the country, passed a law legalizing first-trimester abortions.

On April 24, the Basilica of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City offered up a Holy Mass for the unborn, the victims of abortion. Several thousands of the faithful attended. Suddenly, in the course of the Mass, a wondrous light began to emanate from inside the Image at the level of the Madonna’s womb. The light grew in intensity and took on the shape of a human embryo. Though clear and white, it was not a dazzling light, so that one could see features and movements characteristic of an embryo in a mother’s womb. Photographs taken by witnesses caught the miraculous phenomenon.

Our Lady of Guadalupe is revered as the protectress of unborn children. The miraculous Image portrays her as pregnant. On April 24, 2007, she worked a momentous miracle, drawing the attention of those praying to her to Jesus, the Incarnate Word, while He was still an unborn child. In this way she was calling on the faithful to take up a decisive struggle in defense of the life of unborn children.

Human life begins at the moment of conception and it is sacred. Every human being at every stage of his or her development, but especially while in the mother’s womb, in old age, and when incurably ill, has the right to life and unconditional respect. Euthanasia and the legal murder of unborn children are monstrous crimes and travesties of justice, the greatest single menace to humanity and modern civilization. It is Jesus Himself, through the teachings of the Catholic Church, who tells us that, “Abortion and euthanasia are crimes which no human law can claim to legitimize. There is no obligation in conscience to obey such laws; instead there is a grave and clear obligation to oppose them by conscientious objection” (John Paul II, Evangelium vitae 23).
